Port-La Nouvelle
Port-La Nouvelle is a fast-growing seaport located on the French Mediterranean Coast.
Thanks to a new deep-sea infrastructure representing an investment of Euros 800 million, the port expands from 60 to 210 hectares, and the water depth reaches 16 m to accommodate ships up to 80,000 dwt. Shore side, Port-La Nouvelle proposes 70 hectares for logistic and industrial projects.
While developing its usual traffics (liquid bulk, dry bulk, cereals, breakbulk, heavy lifts, and roro), Port-La Nouvelle is investing in new facilities to serve the emerging industries related to energy transition.
The terminals created with the new deep-sea Port orient Port-La Nouvelle towards new industrial sectors involved in low carbon and sustainable activities. For example :
- The construction site dedicated to the floating offshore windfarm industry is going to be extended to 44 hectares to serve the future generations of floating wind turbines that will be developed within the French Mediterranean and Europe.
- A hub of 20 hectares, partly covered with solar panels, has been developed for importing and exporting new cars and vehicles from 2026.
- A low-carbon cement and hydraulic binder production site is currently being constructed. It will be operational in 2026 and will use self-discharge ships for dust-free handling.
- The Hyd’Occ plant will start producing green hydrogen by the end of 2025 to meet local needs for heavy mobility, industry and power generators. In 2030, the production will go up to 6,000 tonnes (50 MW). It will contribute to the development of a decarbonized port energy ecosystem.
- In addition to this initial plant, Port-La Nouvelle expects to accommodate a floating cracker to produce renewable hydrogen on a larger scale. This hydrogen will be injected into a national shore gas network to serve factories looking for alternative fuels. This network will be connected to the future H2 Med and HYSOW pipelines that target to develop low-carbon hydrogen transport and storage infrastructure in the South-Western France by 2030.
Many other projects are being studied to support alternative fuels, low-carbon commodities, recycling industries, combined transport, and new shipping lines. It offers unique logistics opportunities for shippers, shipowners and investors in the West-Mediterranean with an excellent connectivity to road and rail networks.
Port-La Nouvelle thus amplifies its logistical role in the Mediterranean while being one of the regional drivers of the energy transition
